MY MUSIC, MY JOURNEY, MY MISSION

RAZZ – ROXANNE SKIDMORE

MY MUSIC:

My music is my story. It allows my heart to sing and my soul to speak. It is the first form of communication I was able to articulate in this life. I was crawling up on the piano bench and playing keys on my family’s piano long before I could say words. To me, language is an art, and needs to be learned and practiced on a daily basis, in order to continue expansion and growth.

MY JOURNEY:

I saw letters and expressed myself in a different format as a child. For this reason I was considered slow. I had a difficult time learning to read and write, and was placed in the special reading trailer in grade school; for a short period of time. When my teacher realized, I could verbalize, at a much higher level than I could spell or write, I was placed back into the normal classroom.

I graduated from Bonneville high school in 1983, as one of the youngest students in my graduating class. I was one of the top speakers on the speech and debate team.  I received a full ride speech and debate scholarships to B.Y.U. and U.V.S.C. where I studied Photography, Nursing, Microbiology, and Psychology.

It was not discovered that I have a severe form of dyslexia and dyscalculia, until I started university. Simply put, I see letters, numbers, and signs upside-down, sideways, inverted, and transposed. I also received diagnoses of ADHD, Bi-Polar disorder, and PTSD. I only give you the words that have been given to me to describe how I function and interact with language, written words, symbols, and people.

I do not see any of them as a disability; rather, a gift, which enables me to communicate and interact with others in my community. Once I found my own unique way to learn, digest, and regurgitate knowledge, I was able to complete courses and do well on tests. I am now a state certified peer specialist, which enables me to work and help others such as myself.

Music, I believe, is the universal language, because all things produce some form of wavelength that can be translated into sound and vibration. Even the stars and planets have their own frequency. When I discovered I could not read music in order to learn how to play the piano, I quit trying to play other’s written music, and started creating my own music, sound, and vibration. I use my music to calm and help others focus. The original music CD’s I have created and produced, have been shared in a number of counseling sessions and programs.

MY MISSION:

I have found that what my heart is singing and my soul is saying has touched many people and communicated my intent and desire to help and walk side by side with my others locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. The way I can do this is through my music. I know it expresses those universal truths that are undeniable to all of us. It is my way of living out loud!

I am looking for people to help me find local musicians to perform. I am also looking for people who would like to invest their time and expertise to write grants and fill out a 501C3 form to obtain non-profit status and submit it to the I.R.S. The purpose of this foundation is to help families and friends who have children, who have been diagnosed with a physical or mental disorder, pay for services and treatment.
